Perm training: where a hairdresser should start and where to go next
A perm course is the right first step for a hairdresser. What it teaches, what it leaves out, and why more and more hairdressers choose Korean digital perm as their next step.

If you are just starting to work with perms, a classic perm course is the right first step. I am Oksana Prisyazhnaya, and I say this to everyone without the basics who writes to us before booking our course. Below is what such a course teaches, what it leaves out and how to move on from it to the Korean digital technique.
What a perm course teaches
A classic chemical perm is done without heat: the solution changes the shape and the neutraliser fixes it. The course trains your hands:
- how to read the hair before the procedure;
- how to wind on perm rods of different diameters;
- how to keep track of time and avoid over-processing;
- how to fix the result and what to tell the client about care.
This is a foundation you cannot skip. Everything a hairdresser does later, digital perm included, rests on these skills.
What such a course leaves out
Working with heat. In Korean digital perm the curls are heated on the machine. The temperature on the hair stays within 60-120 °C; the setting is chosen for the hair and changes during the procedure. A classic perm course has no machine and does not teach this.
Korean solutions. The Korean technique is designed for Korean solutions, and it is worth learning on the same solutions you will later work with. On our course these are Beati solutions, original Korean ones from Seoul.
A result on dry hair. A wave from a classic perm is more pronounced on wet hair. A digital perm shows on dry hair and lasts 4-6 months. That is what the client pays for: at Versiya Lab studio the procedure costs from 18,000 ₽ for a bob to 39,000 ₽ for hair below the waist, 30,000 ₽ on average.
What "Korean chemistry" means
Russian clients search for "Korean chemistry" and "Korean chemical perm". Strictly speaking, every perm is chemical: the solution changes the shape, not the rods. "Korean chemistry" usually means Korean digital perm on a machine or cold perm with a Korean solution. There is no separate "Korean chemistry" course: there are the basics and there is the digital technique.
Where to go after the basics
If you already do chemical perms on clients, the next step is a technique with heat. Entering it costs more: you need the machine and Korean solutions, and that investment is worth calculating in advance. We work it out at a consultation, in figures, before you pay. After the course the machine and solutions can be ordered through Versiya Lab studio; the studio sells the machine only to those who have completed the course.
On 25 November 2026 in Moscow there is one day of Korean digital perm for ten people. Hong Jihoon, Creative Technical Director of MASSTIGE HAIR Academy in Seoul, demonstrates the procedure on a live model, with interpreting. I explain what changes in it on Slavic hair. Every participant has their own mannequin. Practice on your own model takes place on a separate day, one-to-one with me, in the studio, or online if you already have the machine; a kit of solutions for it is included in the price. For a month after the course I review your work from photos and videos.
The schedule is in the programme of the day; the price and deposit are in the terms of participation. If you are not sure your basics are enough, write before booking: if it is too early, I will tell you in my first reply.
